Harry Porter Brown was born in Manchester, England and living in Regina, Saskatchewan when he joined the Royal Canadian Volunteer Reserve in January, 1929. He had previously served in the Canadian Militia (28th Battalion, 1st Regina Rifle Regiment) between 1926 and 1929. He served in HMCS Skeena prior to the Second World War and was a member of the Canadian Contingent for King George VI's Coronation in 1937. During the Second World War he served in various capacities, including in HMCS St. Clair, Niobe, and Haida. He was released as medically unfit in 1945 and passed away in 1975.
Sold with numerous original certificates, including the award certificate for the 1937 Coronation Medal, photographs and a leather-bound log for a sail Brown was on with HMCS SKEENA in 1936 as well as his photocopied record of service.
N.B. Having reviewed Brown's service record, it is not clear that he qualified for or was awarded the Atlantic Star or Pacific Star. Additional research may reveal entitlement, however, we are leaving the group as received and presumably as worn by the recipient. His file indicates the clasp for the LSGC was offically replaced.
