William Henry Andrews was born in Barnstaple, Devon in 1876. He joined the RMLI at Swansea in 1894. He served until 1905 at which time he was transferred to the Royal Fleet Reserve. During the First World War he served mainly aboard HMS Hildebrand, an armed merchant cruiser and earned a 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal in addition to his LSGC which was awarded in 1918.
