WWI Victory Medal named to: 441229 PTE. W. H. KINSEL. R.C.R.
William Kinsel was born in Wisconsin and living in North Dakota when he joined the 53rd Battalion (Northern Saskatchewan) CEF in Battleford, SK in April 1915. He proceeded to France for service with the Royal Canadian Regiment in June 1916. He was killed in action, serving with the RCR, on 2 January 1917. The circumstances of his death were as follows: “Was sleeping in a shelter in the front line trench, when the enemy obtained a direct hit on the shelter and he was instantly killed by a shell.” An interesting casualty medal to an American citizen who volunteered to serve in the CEF early in the war.
