WWI Victory Medal named to: 222443 PTE. J. M. PARK. 85-CAN. INF.
A miner by profession, John Martin Park was born in Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland and living in Glace Bay, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, when he joined the 85th Battalion (Nova Scotia Highlanders) at Sydney, NS in October, 1915. He had previous service in the 8th Battalion, Royal Scots (Territorials) before moving to Canada. He gave his age as 40 when he joined the CEF, but was actually much closer to 50, as borne out by his medical file. He served on the Western Front with the battalion until being invalided and eventually discharged being found unfit for further service due to his age.
