Henry Watson Best was born in Seaforth, Huron County, Ontario. He was living in Winnipeg and a member of the 100th Winnipeg Grenadiers, Canadian Militia when he joined the 100th Battalion (Winnipeg Grenadiers) of the CEF in January, 1916. He was transferred to the 78th Battalion and was Killed in Action with the battalion on 9 April, 1916, the first day of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. He is buried in Villers Station Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.
