WWI Victory Medal named to: 754653 PTE. J. A. MACK. 73-CAN. INF.

James Andrew Mack was born in Spanish, Ontario. He was living in Sault Saint Marie, Ontario and serving in the 51st Soo Rifles of the Canadian Militia when he joined the 119th Battalion CEF at Sault Ste Marie in December, 1915. Whilst in England, he was transferred in a draft to the 73rd Battalion (Royal Highlanders of Canda) and proceeded to France. He was temporarily attached to the Canadian Postal Corps, but rejoined the battalion, and was wounded in March, 1917. Following the Battle of Vimy Ridge, the 73rd Battalion was withdrawn from the order of battle, and Mack was transferred to the 42nd Royal Highlanders of Canada, one of the 73rd’s two sister battalions. He was again wounded in May, 1917. Mack continued to serve, being transferred to the Canadian Forestry Corps, presumably on account of his wounds. He returned to Canada and was discharged in July, 1919.
