WWI Victory Medal named to: 451030 PTE. J. W. SHAW. 58-CAN. INF.
James William Shaw was born in Hamilton, Ontario and a member of the 91s Highlanders, Canadian Militia when he joined the 58th Battalion CEF in Niagara in June, 1915. He arrived in France with the battalion in February, 1916. He was severely wounded 31 May, 1916 and invalided first to the UK and subsequently to Canada. He remained in medical care until he was finally discharged from the CEF in 1920. He has an extensive personnel and medical file online which includes photos of his wounded hand. He sadly passed away in 1924 - and his death must have been attributed to his service as Canadian Memorial Crosses were awarded to his mother and wife.
