Harry Burkett Capell was born in Wellingboro, Northants, England. A member of the 88th Victoria Fusiliers (Canadian Militia) he joined the 88th Battalion CEF (VF) in Victoria in December, 1915. He served at the front in the 47th Battalion CEF and the 10th Canadian Machine Gun Company. He was invalided out to England and ultimately to Canada, suffering from Shell Shock and damage to his ears after being partially buried by shellfire in 1916. Capell died in 1927 of pulmonary tuberculosis which was attributed to his war service. A Canadian Memorial Cross, Memorial Plaque and scroll were awarded to his next of kin in 1927, as well as his BWM and VM.
