Victory Medal: LIEUT. F. D. MACFIE.

Frederick Daniel Macfie was born in London, ON and had previous service in the 7th Fusiliers and the 19th Alberta Mounted Rifles. He joined the 3rd Canadian Mounted Rifles as a trooper and proceeded with them to France in September 1915. Transferred to 1st CMRs on reorganization. Following some service at the front and courses he had been promoted to L/Sgt and was then commissioned in September 1916. Initially serving with the Imperial Army, he was sent to France with the 42nd Battalion (Royal Highlanders of Canada/Montreal). Whilst with the 42nd he was seriously wounded at Vimy in April 1917 which resulted in the amputation of his right hand. He has a lengthy CEF file, a British MIC and there is potential for much more research outside of these sources. A very interesting medal to a Canadian Black Watch officer.
