Alexander Baptie was born in Selkirk, Scotland. He had served in the Territorials in the UK for 3 years prior to emmigrating to Australia. He joined the 1st Battalion of the AIF in December, 1914 and proceeded with the battalion to the Dardanelles. He was present during the first day of the landings and is recorded as having been killed in action between May 1st and 5th, 1915 and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial.
