Ernest Albert Grant, a farmer, was born in Gabarus, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. He joined the 185th Battalion (Cape Breton Highlanders) in April, 1916. In England, he was transferred to the 85th Battalion and served on the Western Front with that unit. He was badly wounded on 9 August, 1918 during the Battle of Amiens and invalided to England. He died of his wounds on 29 September, 1918 and is buried in Brookwood Military Cemetery.
