William Foote was born in Toronto, Ontario and working as a mail collector when he joined the 134th Battalion (48th Highlanders) in Toronto in February, 1916. He was transferred to the 19th (Central Ontario) Battalion and served with that unit on the Western Front from May, 1917. His file indicates that he was wounded on the last day of the war, November 11th, 1918.
