Born in Meldrum, Scotland, Peter Simpson was living in Newport, Massachusetts when he joined the 236th Battalion “New Brunswick Kilties – Sir Sam’s Own” at Fredericton, NB in June, 1917. He was transferred to the 72nd Battalion (Seaforth Highlanders of Canada) and proceeded to France in a reinforcement draft. He served with the battalion until suffering bomb wounds in both legs in September, 1918 and being invalided to England.
