Charles Edward Lock was born in Deptford, London, England. He joined the 46th Battalion at Regina in March, 1915 and proceeded to England with the battalion. Once overseas he was attached to the 10th Brigade HQ as a Bandsman for most of a year. He was then briefly attached to the 50th Battalion before returning to the 46th Battalion and serving with them until late 1917, at which point he was attached to the 182nd Tunnelling Company of the Royal Engineers for some time until returning to the 46th Battalion until the end of hostilities.
