Charles Henry (Hunter) Blakeney was born in Ottawa, Ontario and was employed as a butcher when he joined the 59th Battalion CEF in July, 1915. He was transferred to a few various battalions while in England before proceeding overseas with the 46th Battalion. Blakeney was dangerously wounded in action in August, 1917. Evacuated, he convalesced in the UK and was returned to Canada. He reattested in the Corps of Military Staff Corps in 1919 and served with them in various capacities until 1920.
