William Ross was born in Thornliebank, Scotland. He joined the 39th Battalion CEF in Belleville, Ontario in February, 1915. In England, he was transferred to the 25th Battalion (Nova Scotia) and proceeded overseas with that unit. He was Killed in Action 14 April, 1916 and is commemorated on the Menin Gate, Ypres, Belgium.
