Henry Wylde was born in London, England. He joined the 70th Battalion CEF at Brigden, Ontario in November, 1915. He was drafted to the 19th Battalion and served with them on the Western Front until he was wounded on 9 April 1917 during the Battle of Vimy Ridge. Invalided to England, he spent several months recovering until he returned to the 49th Battalion in December of 1917. He was attached to the 4th Machine Gun Company in March 1918 and then transferred permanently to the 2nd Canadian Machine Gun Corps with whom he served until the end of the Great War.
