British War Medal named to: 823506 PTE. W. J. MARKS. 142-CAN. INF.
William John Marks was born in Bath, England and had three years prior service in the Devon and Somerset Royal Engineers when he joined the 142nd Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force in London, Ontario in October, 1916. Marks proceeded to the UK but did not make it to the front for reasons that are not entirely clear. He was discharged “for the purpose of re-enlisting in the CASD Details MD1” He rejoined the CEF in 1918 but did not see further service outside of Canada. A scarce BWM to the 142nd Battalion and what appears to be Marks’ complete entitlement for his service.
