George Edward Armstrong was born in Howland Township, Manitoulin Island, Ontario and living in Little Current when he joined the Battalion 119th (Algoma) in January, 1916. He proceeded to France with the 124th Battalion (Governor General’s Body Guard) and served for over a year with that unit, escaping wounds but suffering an accidental broken ankle. Armstong served in the 10th Battalion, Canadian Engineers following his recovery and remained with that unit until the end of the war. Medals named to the 124th Battalion are scarce.
