Walter Cheesman was born in Brighton, Sussex, England. He joined the 55th Battalion (New Brunswick and PEI) at Sussex, NB in June, 1915. Transferred to the 13th Battalion (Royal Highlanders of Canada), he joined the battalion in France in April, 1916. Cheesman was killed in action 13 June 1916 during the Battle of Mont Sorrel. He is commemorated on the Menin Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
