George V issue Military Medal named to: 427528 PTE. O. A. BENTON 5/SASK. R.
Omey Alfred Benton was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma, USA. Joined the CEF in December 1915 and landed as a reinforcement to the 5th Battalion in late June 1916. Wounded (GSW hip) less than a month later. Hospitalized and returned to his unit only to be wounded by a gas shell in 1918. Released as medically unfit. Received the Silver War Badge (WSB Class B) and awarded the MM as per London Gazette 31740, 3-7-1919. A nice MM to a brave American-born member of the CEF.
