Michael Johnson was born in Toronto and joined the 35th Battalion (Toronto). He was drafted to the 14th Battalion (Royal Montreal Regiment) and served with them on the Western Front from October 1915. Wounded in September 1916, Johnson was later killed in action 1 October 1918. He is buried in Welington Cemetery, Nord, France. MM awarded per London Gazette 31173 – 11 Feb 1919.
