George Francis Antell was born in London, England in 1883. A pre-WWI member of the Canadian Militia (48th Highlanders) he joined the 2nd Battalion, CEF at Valcartier in September, 1914. He was granted a commission in the Canadian Ordnance Corps and also served attached to the Royal Flying Corps / Royal Air Force. His name was "Brought to notice to the Secretary of State for War for valuable service in connection to the War" (1919). He evidently continued to serve in the 48th Highlanders after the war, earning the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal. He died in Toronto in 1953 and is buried there.
