A WWI period portrait photograph in a cardboard folder of 454036 Pte Peter Griffin. In the photo he is wearing a CEF winter cap with a 26th Battalion cap badge affixed, C/26 collar badges and his CEF War Service Badge over his left pocket.
Griffin was born in Eccles, Lancashire, England and had 2 years previous service in the Army Service Corps when he attested to the 59th Battalion in Ottawa in June 1915. He was sent to the Western Front in a reinforcing draft to the 26th Battalion and served with that unit until he was wounded and returned to Canada being found unfit for further service. He died in 1952 and is buried in Russell, Ontario, southeast of Ottawa.
The photo measures approximately 16 x 11 cm, the folder 30 x 21 cm when closed. Accompanying the photo in uniform are 2 additional photographs of Griffin later in life.
