Farquar McRae was born in St. Godrey, Bonaventure County, Quebec. He joined the 40th Battalion (Nova Scotia) CEF at Liverpool, NS in April, 1915. In England, he was transferred first to the 23rd Battalion and then joined the 3rd Battalion in France in a draft of men in September, 1915. He was killed in action by shrapnel wounding him in the head on May 28th, 1916 and is buried in Woods Cemetery, Belgium.
