WWI British War Medal - 17th Canadian Infantry Battalion - McNeal

Joseph McNeal was born in North Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in 1879. He gave his trade as cook when he joined the 17th Battalion CEF in September, 1914. He proceeded to England with the battalion and was employed as a cook. However, he suffered from pulmonary tuberculosis, from which he succumbed on 8 July, 1916. McNeal is buried in Shorncliffe Military Cemetery. This BWM represents his sole entitlement and is a scarce example named to the 17th Battalion CEF.
