Thomas William Wellham was born in Barling, Essex, England and served in the 16th Lancers before immigrating to Canada. He was living in MacGregor, Manitoba and employed as a farmer when he joined the 221st Battalion CEF in July, 1916. He proceeded to France, joining the 78th Battalion (Winnipeg Grenadiers). Wellham was listed as wounded and missing after action on 11 August, 1918. He was later reported as a Prisoner of War being held in Neuhammer, Germany. He was released from captivity following the Armistice and was discharged from the CEF in April, 1919. A scarce medal to a Canadian Prisoner of War.
