Robert Delmar Dobson was born in Pembroke, Ontario and working as a delivery driver when he joined the Canadian Mounted Rifles (Depot Regiment) at Ottawa in April, 1916. He served on the Western Front with the 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles and was wounded sometime between 7-10 April, 1917 at Vimy Ridge. He later served in the Canadian Machine Gun Corps and was discharged in Canada in 1919.
