Frank Ernest Savory was born in Todmorden, Ontario. He had a year of service in the 36th Peel Regiment, Canadian Militia, when he joined the 12th Battalion at Valcartier in September, 1914. Transferred to the 3rd Battalion (Toronto), he served overseas in the battalion and with the 1st Canadian Machine Gun Corps.
