Walter George Godwin (Goodwin on some documents) was born in Douglas on the Isle of Man. He had served for 5 years in the 3rd Battalion of the Border Regiment before immigrating to Canada. Godwin was working as a plasterer when he joined the 35th Battalion CEF in Toronto in April, 1915. He proceeded to France in a reinforcement draft to the 3rd Battalion and served with that unit until invalided out of service due to sickness (Rheumatism). He was discharged in Canada in 1918.
