James Harold Royle was born in Manchester, England. He had previous service in the Officers' Training Corps, St. Andrew's School and was a member of the 101st Regiment Edmonton Fusiliers, Canadian Militia when he joined the 9th Battalion CEF at Valcartier in September, 1914. Transferred to the 1st Battalion CEF, he was severely wounded a Givency in June 1915 (GSW right ankle - compound fracture tibia and fibula) and discharged as medically unfit due to his wounds. Sold with an original ID disc faintly named to him in pencil.
