WWI 1914-15 Star named to: 18123 PTE. E. MURPHY. YORK. R.

Ernest Murphy was born in South Hetton, Durham and joined the BEF at Houghton-le-Spring. He served in the 6th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, first in the Balkans Theatre and later in France and Flanders. He was killed in action on September 28th, 1916 and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
