John Durkin was born in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Scotland. He joined the 1st Battalion, KOSB at Glasgow. Initially sent to Egypt, his battalion then deployed to Gallipoli, participating in the landings and subsequent battles on the peninsula. John Durkin was killed in action on June 7th, 1915 and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial. His father's Victory Medal (Patrick Durkin - Royal Fusiliers) is also listed on our website.
