WWI 1914-15 Star - 18th Canadian Infantry Battalion - Riley - WIA/DOW

WWI 1914-15 Star named to: 53962 PTE. A RILEY. 18-CAN. INF.

Arthur Riley was born in Liverpool, England. He had 3 years service in the Canadian Militia when he joined the 18th Battalion CEF at Goderich, Ontario in December, 1914. He served in France with the battalion and was promoted several times, reaching the rank of Sergeant in November, 1916. Riley was severely wounded in April, 1918 and invalided first to the UK and thence to Canada. Never fully recovering he died in 1920. He is buried in Goderich, Ontario and is commemorated on the Canadian Virtual War Memorial, which also has a photograph of him as well as his gravestone, see link below:
