1914-15 Star (10917 Pte. J. Stapleton. Lan: Fus:) British War Medal, Victory Medal (10917. Pte. J. Stapleton. Lan. Fus.)
John Stapleton was born in Liverpool in 1870. He was employed as a dock labourer when joined the 15th (Service) Battalion (1st Salford) Lancashire Fusiliers. He served in 15 Platoon, D Company and was killed in action on the First Day of the Battle of the Somme - 1st July, 1916. Having no known grave, he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. A very scarce and desirable trio to an original member of the 1st Salford Pals, killed on that fateful day when nearly the entire battalion was wiped out.
