He became Colonel of the Second Battalion, and served at Mons, Loos, Aubers, The Somme, Passchendaele and the Hundred Days, and was twice awarded the D.S.O., as well as numerous Mentions in Despatches. One of the most distinguished officers in that regiment, he represented the regiment when the Celtic Memorial Cross was unveiled at Ypres. He returned to Ryecourt, and was buried in Christchurch Graveyard.
