William Morris was born in Desertmartin near Moneymore in County Derry around 1821 and joined the 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment at Belfast in January 1839.
His service record states that he served during the campaign in Scinde in 1842 and 1843 and was present at the Battle of Meeanee, 17 February 1843 and also at the Battle of Hydrabad 24 March 1843. He further served in the campaign to Southern Mahattra in 1844 and 1845.
Morris was awarded his LSGC in 1858. He received his dischage in 1860 having completed 21 years of service and qualifying for his pension.
