Private Josephat Touchette served in the 65th Regiment (Mount Royal Rifles) before the Boer War. He is recorded as having been found guilty by regimental court martial of mutinous conduct for his participation in the so-called “Snow Shovelling Mutiny (1896) at the Royal Canadian Infantry School. The incident, including Touchette’s involvement is well documented on the Regimental Rogue website. Touchette later served with the 2nd (Special Service) Battalion, RCR during the South African War and was present at the Battle of Paardeberg.
