William Charles Schwitzer was born in Ottawa, Ontario. A member of the 43rd Ottawa and Carleton Battalion of Rifles of the Canadian Militia, he attested to the 2nd (Special Service) Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment in October, 1899.
