George Telesphore Lamothe was born in Orleans, Quebec (Island). He was a member of the Ottawa Rough Riders Football team circa 1898-99 and had previously played several seasons in Toronto (Osgoode Hall). He was appointed to the Ottawa police force in 1898 and according to period newspapers was quite a renowned fencer, winning the Governor General's Cup. Keen to serve overseas, he attested to the 2nd SS Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment in November, 1899. He had a bullet wound recorded on his attestation paper, possibly incurred during his police service. Lamothe served with the RCR at Paardeberg and was discharged in 1901. After the Boer War, he appears to have relocated to Buffalo, NY where he lived out the remainder of his days.
