QSA (Cape Colony. Paardeberg, Johannesburg, South Africa 1901) named to: 2259 Pte. W. Palmer, Norfolk Regt.
William Palmer was born in South Hingham, Norwich, Norfolk around 1870. He was serving in the 3rd Battalion Norfolk Regiment when he enlisted in the regular army in 1888. He served a total of just over 21 years, all with the Norfolk Regiment - mostly as a drummer. His service records show he initially had the service number 2259 and later this was changed to 6022. His records confirm the award of the QSA and clasp entitlement. Medal is contained in an old tin case - presumably how the recipient chose to store it. Medal suspension is a slightly slack.
