John Harold Robertson was born in Barrington Passage, Nova Scotia in 1916. He had 2 years of service in the Canadian Militia (Royal Montreal Regiment) from 1930-32 when he joined the Canadian Army in Montreal in June, 1944. He served in the Canadian Armoured Corps and the Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians). For his service during the Second World War, he was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and 1939-45 War Medal. He was initially released in 1946. He again volunteered in 1950, joining the Canadian Army Special Force. He served in Korea with the Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) from late 1951 until mid-1952 and was awarded the Queen's Korea and UN Korea Medals. He was ultimately released in 1952.
