France - 3rd Republic (1871-1940) - Order of the Legion of Honour - 5th Class Knight

France: Ordre de la Légion d'Honneur, Chevalier. This order was originally instituted by Napoleon in 1802.

Both round centrepieces in gold with red, white and blue enamels, mounted to a five-armed cross and wreath base in silver with green and white enamels. The suspension ring is marked in a diamond shape but the details cannot be discerned. Exhibits chipping and repairs to the enamel on the tips of the arms. Appears to be an early issue for the period covered by this award.
