Orval Clifford Robertson was born in Shallow Lake, Ontario in 1915. He was living in Vancouver when he joined the Canadian Active Service Force there in January, 1942. He appears to have begun in service in the Canadian Forestry Corps but undertook trades training and became qualified as an artillery signaller in the UK. He was SOS to the 17th Canadian Field Regiment, RCA and proceeded overseas to Italy in November 1943. Following service through the Italian Campaign he proceeded to France in February 1945. He volunteered for service in the Pacific Theatre in June 1945. In 1946 he is recorded as having reenlisted in the Interim Force and continued to serve. Through 1946 he served mainly in a coastal battery, RCA in Esquimalt, BC. He transferred to the Regular Force and served in the RCA until he retired from military service in 1961.

Medals are swing mounted as worn. The Commissionaires Long Service medal is pinned on with a safety pin. He likely received the medal and elected to not have the full set remounted.
