WO2 Daniel Thomas McDonald was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba 29 July 1911. Living in Port Arthur, Ontario, he worked in the lumber industry before joining the Canadian Army in 1942. He served overseas in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps attached to the 1st Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment (Lanark and Renfrew Scottish) during the Italy Campaign, during which he was Mentioned in Despatches for Gallant Conduct. He later served in France and Germany with the 12th Canadian Infantry Brigade. He returned to Canada in 1946 and continued to serve in the militia (Lake Superior Scottish Regiment) until 1965. His WWII medals are swing mounted as worn and the CD, awarded towards the end of his career, is on a single swing mount. The entire set of medals were mounted together in a frame and evidently had been in direct sunlight as the frame and ribbons were quite faded.
McDonald spent his remaining years in Thunder Bay, passing away there in 2004. He has a detailed entry on Ancestry which includes an obituary. Sold with an electronic copy of his WWII and later service file, which will be emailed to the buyer.
