An original, scarce WWII badge worn by students at the Galt Aircraft School in Galt, Ontario.
The Galt Aircraft School was established at Galt, Ontario in 1939 by Norman Hipel. Initially opened as a civilian school to train suitably young men as apprentices in various specialized skills associated with aero-plane construction. In 1942 the operation of the school was taken over by the Canadian Armed Forces. The school operated at various locations in Galt including the Galt Collegiate, a woodworking shop and a disused shoe factory and a disused school. Courses included in air frame, air engine mechanics, carpentry and wireless these lasting different lengths of time usually between three and six months.
