British War Medal, Victory Medal named to: 204231 PTE. C. GREEN. CAN. M.G.C.
Charles Green was born in Topeka, Kansas, USA. He was working as a farmer and living in Strassburg, Saskatchewan when he joined the 96th Battalion (Canadian Highlanders) in November, 1915. In England he was transferred initially to the 92nd Battalion (48th Highlanders) but later to the 14th Canadian Machine Gun Company, joining that unit in France in April, 1917. In late July, 1917 Green was wounded (GSW buttock) and invalided to England. He had a surgery to remove the bullet lodged in his pelvis. Still experiencing significant pain and loss of movement, he was eventually medically discharged from the CEF in March, 1918. His WWI pair is sold with his Class A War Service Badge, Class B War Service Badge (WSB), an engraved ID bracelet, various original badges and insignia and a photo of him. In the photo he can be seen wearing the early “MGS” collar titles as well as rare “Saskatchewan” cloth shoulder titles. This group was found framed. Unfortunately a previous owner, likely the family, removed all the lugs/attachment fittings from the badges/insignia.
