Canadian – WWI – 1914-15 Medal Trio – 4th Canadian Infantry Battalion – Rider

Trio named: 10687 Pte. J. Rider 4-CAN. INF.

Joseph Rider was born in London, England and claimed 5 years prior service in the 4th Battalion Royal West Surrey Regiment and an additional 5 years in the 57th Regiment – Peterborough Rangers when he attested to the 4th Battalion CEF in September 1914. He served with the Battalion on the Western Front until 1916 when he elected to end his service as per the Order in Council permitting those in receipt of working pay to resign. He returned to Canada and reenlisted serving the remainder of the war in the Canadian Military Police.
