British - WWI - 1914-15 Medal Trio to Durham Light Infantry - Doran

1914-15 Star, British War Medal, WWI Victory Medal (2415 Pte. J. T. Doran, Durh. L.I.)

John Thomas Doran was from Dunston and had previously served 4 years in the 6th Durham Territorials when he attested to the 9th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry at Gateshead in September 1914. He disembarked in France 20 April 1915, just prior to the 2nd Battle of Ypres, in which the battalion was heavily engaged. He was invalided to England for medical treatment but returned to France with the RAMC later in the war. His service file survives and may be viewed online.
