1914-15 Star (3-16642 Pte. J. W. Britton. W. Rid R.), British War Medal, Victory Medal (named as Star except rank as Cpl)
John William Britton was from Adderley Green, Staffordshire and served in the 8th Battalion, West Riding Regiment. He landed in Gallipoli with his battalion 7 July 1915. Following the evacuation, Britton was transferred to the 32nd Brigade, Machine Gun Company. His service file has survived and may be consulted online. Interestingly, he was placed on stoppage of pay to support his illegitimate child born in 1913.
